2011 Fundraiser
Bay Area Artists for Japan was established in 2011 as a relief effort to raise funds for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. In April 2011, we sponsored a three-day benefit during which time we sold works of art, generously donated by local artists, and raised nearly $24,500.00, which was donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Now, two years later, people in the affected areas continue to live in uncertainty. Bay Area Artists for Japan is planning a second event to think about what we can do to help from California and what we can learn from Fukushima? Also, what can be learned from the nuclear disaster in CA and elsewhere?
On March 30, 2013, we will hold a panel discussion with guest speakers, followed by a short presentation and art auction with proceeds going to relief efforts for the children of Fukushima.
In times of tragedy, we believe that one of the roles of the art community is to stimulate conversation and thought on what can be done through art. We continue our community relief efforts in hopes of making a small contribution to those communities in Eastern Japan, which have been devastated by the triple disasters.
